Greetings, Has anyone played this variant. Feel free to give it a try. It was taught to my family a couple of years ago. The family who taught it said that it was a Mennonite game originating from Indiana.
We have played it with 4-6 people. I do not think the Skip-Bo deck will support 8 players. It is also good to play as teams. I am trying to find if I have the correct instructions, but I cannot seem to find anything on-line. I emailed Hasbro and they did not know of any such game play. Enjoy, Rob - Setup: 1. Each player gets 10 cards, two rows of five.

Flip over only 3 cards. Unknown Draw Pile. Flip a card as a Discard Pile. Player after the dealer starts. Players choose between unknown Draw Pile or from the known Discard Pile. A player either chooses: - To replace any card in his 10 card hand, in which the replaced card is played to the Discard Pile. To reject the drawn card and it is played to the Discard Pile.
The game ends when a player turns over all their cards the remaining players play one more time, including the person who turned over their last card. 7 Card = 0, 11 Card = 0, Skip-Bo Card = 0, All other cards are face value. Match number vertical zero each other out. Group of 4 = -20 end score deduction. Group of 6 = -30 or -40 end score deduction. As in the game of golf, the lowest score wins. It is sometimes better to pick from the Draw Pile thank to pick from the Discard Pile.
Watch your opponent to the right of you, who might unexpectedly discard a card that you may need. Watch your opponent hand to the left of you, who might need a card that you would be discarding. This is how my friend taught us to play years ago.I recently asked her to write it down for me because we only played once and they called it Ripple. Ripple the card game -taught by the Hadlock family Ripple uses Skip-Bo cards, each player has 10 cards in front of them face down. You can pick any three cards you want to put face up, but it's better to not turn cards that are directly across from each other, because then you take away the potential 'ripple' Game starts when a player chooses a card from the remaining deck, or just flips a card over.
If you just flip a card over your turn is over. If you draw from a deck (the main deck or someone else's discard pile) you have to discard a card on your own discard pile (just above your 10 cards.
Any other player can take the to card on your discard, so you have to watch out and try not to discard a card that would help someone win if you can help it. Points are bad in this game and the only way to not get points is to have the same number across from each other.
So, if I had a 5 and 5 on my bottom and top row across from each other, then it would be 0 points. If it were a 5 and 7, it would be 12 points.
We always played that the 7's, 11's, and Skip-Bo cards were wild and worth 0 points no matter what. If you get a 'square' or 4 numbers of the same right be each other (2 on top, 2 directly below), then it's worth -20. In order to ripple there has to be a card face down across from another, so let's say I have 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, all face up on my top row and corresponding below I have 1, face down, face down, face down, 7.
On someone's pile there is a 3, so you take it and put it across from your other three and the number that was face down under the 3 was a 2, now you can put that two underneath your 2 because it was face down, that's the ripple, so now you replace that 2 and find that there is a 5. You have to discard the 5 because the number under your 5 is already face up. The only time you can replace a face up card is on the first draw using a card from the deck.
